TECH & HOSPITALITY RIDER

Congratulations on bringing JUXTAPOWER (South Africa’s Song & Dance) to your venue.

This rider is an integral part of the contract to which it is attached. While we are able to be flexible with the details presented here please consult with Sduduzo Ka-Mbili before making any substitutions.

Ground Transportation

  1. JUXTAPOWER consists of 5-7 dancers/singers and drummer for colleges, and 10-12 singers/dancers and drummer for theaters… traveling with lots of baggage (costumes, equipment, etc) and should be transported to and from the airport and performance venue.

Sound Check/Tech-In Requirements

A sound check is required prior to performance. The place of engagement shall be ready and available to JUXTAPOWER at a predetermined time. Light and sound people (those who will be operating systems for performance) shall be available to do a complete rehearsal. 

    1. A representative of the presenting organization shall meet the performers on location for the scheduled rehearsal and/or Arts In Education event in order to make sure the performance facility is ready for the sound check/rehearsal with appropriate lighting, heat/AC, etc.
    2. Two or more persons should be there to help the company with any requirements thereof
    3. We will need a minimum 45 minutes to 1hr to warm-up before the performance begins.

 

Stage Equipment, Sound and Lighting

Please provide the following for Juxtapower’s performance and sound check:

  1. Professional sound system, with sufficient speaker and amplification system to produce quality house and on-stage sound without distortion or feedback. 
  2. System should have CD capability.
    1. All venues require:

 I. Five vocal (wireless) microphones in good working order for the singer are to be provided.
II. A full microphone set should be provided for the drum set.

  1. Professional lighting:  Standard lighting needs for any theater house. General house plot and area lighting. Blackout, shadow effects, red wash and yellow wash are recommended. White Cyclorama preferred or standard Curtain backdrop suggested.
  2. Clean and sprung wooded floor in good condition is preferable with morley. However Carpet, marble, metal, concrete floors, concrete floors with tile, etc are NOT acceptable.  Raised platforms are suitable if properly secured and sound is solid.  Stage size 25’wide x 20’deep x 18’high, cleared.  Please consider that the performance focuses heavily on percussive dance so good, wood flooring with proper amplification creates the rhythms.
  3. A clear area on both stage right and left equipped with sufficient space and lighting for quick costume changes.  Area should be freshly cleaned and mopped.
  4. A trap Drum set is to be provided by the booker in order to limit luggage brought by cast, two chairs, a bench, three ladders, DVD projector, smoke machine, and stage pieces for set.
  5. Security - Purchaser shall provide proper security at all times to ensure the safety of JUXTAPOWER’S costumes and personal property for the duration of the Artists’ time at the venue, as well as a lighting person and stage hands people.  


Dressing Room Requirements

    1. Purchaser shall provide at least one (1) large dressing room (male and female) suitable for performers with lockable doors for the sole use of the Artist. 
    2. Rooms shall be comfortable with heating or air conditioning appropriate to climate with adequate lighting, large dressing mirror, clothes rack, clothes hangers, comfortable seating (chairs and couches) and PRIVATE toilet facilities in the rooms or within close proximity.
    3. The dressing room should include two (1) iron and (1) ironing board as well as six (6) clean tall bath towels. Please work to ensure that the DRESSING ROOM is DIRECTLY accessible to the stage. We prefer to set up, warm up and dress in the SAME room closest to the stage.
    4. If possible, dressing room should be equipped with one (1) CD/Tape portable sound system (“boom box”), one (1) fresh fruit platter, sandwiches, bottled water (at least 2 bottles per person) and Gatorade or juice.  A full meal should be provided to artists if they are at the venue for more than two hours.

 

Hospitality Requirements

  1. 4 hotel rooms are requested (non-smoking doubles and one single) for colleges. 7-8 rooms for a bigger cast are requested.
  2. Whenever possible host venue should provide hotel accommodations that have 24-hour access to a whirlpool/hot tub and fitness center. If not, a full-service hotel with a minimum of three stars is recommended.
  3. The host will provide and make arrangements for hotel accommodations.  JUXTAPOWERprefers to be as close to the theater/performance space as possible (located close to eating establishments and/or supermarkets or convenience stores). However, please keep in mind that the dancers also prefer to be in comfortable quarters with enough space to stretch, practice, and get ready for the show. (Hospitality requirement does not apply to TOTAL ENTERTAINMENT).
  4. JUXTAPOWER does not eat a meal before a performance. The cast will need a full meal to be provided for them after the performance, but a few snack to keep them going before the show should be arranged.  Please ensure that the meal provided is a healthy, balanced one; fast food is not acceptable.  It will be up to your discretion as to whether the meal is delivered to the venue, or that arrangements are made on JUXTAPOWER’S behalf at a restaurant.  A quick reminder that there are some vegetarians in the company to be given special attention when it comes to foods available.

 

Reproduction

No portion of the performance may be broadcast, photographed, recorded, filmed, taped or embodied in any manner for the purpose of reproducing or subsequently broadcasting such performance without JUXTAPOWER’s prior written consent.

Press

JUXTAPOWERcan be available for press interviews, TV/radio programs, etc., but these activities need to be scheduled well in advance and noted as part of the schedule.

Contract

The JUXTAPOWER performance runs between 45 to 1 hour for colleges and 1hr 10 minutes for theaters. A contract should be signed in due time between JUXTAPOWER and Purchaser before the travel arrangements are made.
